Warm & Well Partner Spotlight – Northallerton and the Dales Mencap Society

Northallerton and the Dales Mencap  Society is a Local Society based at Goosecroft Centre, Goosecroft Lane, Northallerton.  The Society was established as a charity in 1964, we have just celebrated 60 years.  The Society was originally set up by parents of people who have a learning disability in the Hambleton and Richmondshire areas of North Yorkshire. We give help advice and support to people who have a learning   disability, their families and their carers.

The Goosecroft Centre is used for a variety of activities for adults which run during the day and we also hire the Centre to other groups and organisations that support our work.  We work in partnership with other local groups such as Northdale Horticulture and Chopsticks as well as other Voluntary and statutory agencies.

Groups we currently run are:  Monday Club, Tuesday Art Group and Wednesday Drop In.  We also take part in focus groups about issues that effect people on topics such as Health, Housing, Employment, Social Care and  Leisure opportunities. We always work with people to give them a voice so that their issues are raised and the appropriate organisations hear what the issues are.

We welcome anyone who would like to join in with any activities we do at the Goosecroft Centre or just want to chat about what we do.  Contact:  Sue Lear, Development Manager or Joelle Mitchell, Assistant Manager.  Tel: 01609 778894 or email: admin@nothallertonmencap.org.uk
